Norway’s PM announces “crucial” contract award
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre recently announced that Marelli Motori sister company Bergen Engines has been awarded what he described as a crucial contract to provide power generating equipment to help meet the humanitarian energy needs of around 1,500,000 people in the Dnipro region of Ukraine this winter. The equipment will be fitted with Marelli Motori alternators.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) funded project will reinforce Ukraine’s energy infrastructure at a critical time.
“Russia’s war of aggression has destroyed large parts of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. It is absolutely essential to ensure that the Ukrainian people have access to electricity this winter. Norway is now providing funding to secure electricity supplies for some one and a half million people and industrial activities in Ukraine. Bergen Engines won a contract for procurement of power supply equipment in an international tender process and funding for the equipment will be provided under the Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine. It was crucial that we succeeded in getting this important agreement in place, as winter is approaching bringing greater need,” said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
He went on to emphasise the importance of the contract award:
“Russia’s war of aggression has destroyed large parts of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. It is crucial to ensure the Ukrainian population receives electricity this winter. Among other things, Bergen Engines has won a tender to supply power supply equipment. This is a big, important agreement and it’s very good that it’s now in place as we head toward a colder season with even greater needs.”

Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide also stressed the significance of the agreement:
“The violent attacks on the energy infrastructure mean that increased capacity is critical for Ukraine. There is little of this type of equipment on the market, so it’s a very important agreement and support for Ukraine this winter.”

The order is part of a larger initiative funded by the Norwegian government through the Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine aimed at supporting Ukraine’s energy sector amidst the ongoing conflict.
Jon Erik Røv, Managing Director of Bergen Engines commented:
“We are honored to be part of this essential project to bolster Ukraine’s energy security. Our engines will provide robust and reliable power, ensuring Ukraine can face its energy challenges with confidence.”
